After an incredible time in Los Angeles we set off for a 4 hour road journey to the fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada! We considered flying here as it is a lot quicker but as my dad has always dreamt of exploring America’s famous old historic Route 66, we chose to drive so that we could soak up the history.
Our first stop once we got onto Route 66 was a visit to the California Route 66 Museum in Victorville!
Here we found out just how long the road is, what shops and stops it had along the way when it was in its prime and saw signs and props that have been kept. It was a lovely start to our journey and would recommend visiting the museum on the way, it is also free of charge!
Our second stop along the open road featured getting the classic road marking, luckily the road isn’t very busy so you can easily get a iconic shot by stopping at the side of the road. We then went a little further viewing old run down abandoned shops, saloons that are still in business and the Bottle Sculptures which are privately owned and created but completely open to the public, there are some amazing creations made from all sorts of materials and it’s totally unique!
There’s so many beautiful desert mountain views as you get closer to Vegas, there are mile long trains carrying all sorts, definitely something you don’t see in England!
First night in Las Vegas we got settled in our hotel, we stayed at the Tropicana hotel on Las Vegas strip, we were surprised just how big it was as this was our first time in Vegas, it took forever just to find our room!
Our first full day we spent visiting the Las Vegas sign, Harley Davidson Shop and cafe and the Neon Light Muesum. We saw some of the old signs used on the hotels which have been preserved and made into a Muesum! I thought this was a lovely idea, my favourite was the little cactus.
In the evening we took a shuttle down the strip to old Fremont street, it was so busy with people performing and lots of stalls of food and entertainment. The videos on the ceiling are incredible!
The Bellagio was hands down my favourite hotel. The fountains outside are beautifully in sync with grand music, they look gorgeous in the daytime and nighttime.
Inside the hotel were botanical gardens and a conservatory full of wonderfully created floral sculptures. They had their fall/autumn edition display ‘Falling Asleep’ which had orange hues and rustic tones of woodland animals, pumpkins and leaves and also a giant lady, all featuring real flowers.
Very beautiful!
Luxor hotel is based on an Egyptian theme throughout, with a giant Sphinx statue outside and decor inside. The attention to detail is incredible.
New York New York has a rollercoaster inside!
And mgm featured a giant lion figure outside.
The Venetian hotel was the most grand of the hotels, it featured a canal boat ride and glorious architecture, inside it had chandeliers and many luxury shops.
We explored a few other hotels such as Flamingo, And Mandalay Bay that day, we couldn’t believe how much walking there is and just how big everything is, one hotel is around the size of a small town!
The following morning we set off back to Los Angeles. We stopped off at the famous 50’s Peggy Sues diner where we had the best burger we had eaten all week!
As it was getting late when we returned back to LA, we decided to just explore Sunset Boulevard and head to the cinema to watch Fantastic Beasts, Crimes of Grindelwald!
The following day we decided to make a beach day.
We started at the beautiful Santa Monica beach, exploring the pier and sunbathed on the beach before heading down to Venice beach which is a little more crazy. Santa Monica was my favourite of the two being more relaxed.
On our very last day we spent a few hours at the Peterson automotive Muesum which my dad absolutely loved. We saw cars from films such as Cars, Herbie, Back to the Future and Fast and Furious (which even I enjoyed).
I just had to get a photo at the Pink Wall on Melrose Avenue... I love pink!
For the remainder of the day we spent it exploring the luxury streets of Beverly Hills, it’s so luxurious and most defiantly my favourite place in Los Angeles, it really is full of expensive taste, cars and decor. I love just strolling down Rodeo Drive imagine what it must be like to live your daily life there, a dream!
Last morning before our flight home we spent at our hotel at the pool before returning our car rental.
If anyone is interested we flew with KLM from Norwich > Amsterdam > LAX
All flights went smoothly, good food & no delays.
Highly recommend!
We had the most amazing time and I can’t wait for my next adventure wherever that might be!
Thank you for reading!
